How handyman work is quoted depends on what is being asked for. Some jobs are charged by the hour; a list of jobs is usually priced as a single visit. This explains which tends to apply, and how to get the most out of a booking either way.
How the work is priced
It depends on the job. Some work is charged at an hourly rate. Where there is a list of things to get through, it is usually priced as a single visit instead — we work to a minimum half-day, and the list is quoted as a whole rather than item by item. The reason is that travelling, protecting the area, setting up and clearing away happen once whether we deal with one job or nine, so a list spreads that cost rather than one task carrying all of it. Bundling Tasks
Grouping several small repairs into one visit is almost always better value than booking them separately, because you pay the setup cost once instead of three times. If the list is too short to be worth a visit, we will say so rather than book the time and fill it. Either way you get it in writing before anything is booked, and what goes into an estimate covers what that document should contain.
