Wall painting
Holes and dents filled, hairline cracks opened out and repaired rather than skimmed over, surfaces sanded flat, repairs spot-primed so they do not flash through the finish, then two full coats.
Ceiling painting
Cut in by hand, rolled in a flat finish that hides the unevenness older ceilings usually have. Water stains are sealed with a stain-blocking primer first, or they will bleed back through within weeks.

Interior painting in Chicago’s older homes
A lot of Chicago interior work is not painting problems, it is surface problems. Much of the city’s housing predates drywall, and lath-and-plaster walls behave differently: they move with the seasons, so hairline cracks that were simply filled will reopen in a year. We cut them out, bridge them and stabilise the surrounding plaster before any filler goes on.
Trim in older properties often carries decades of layered oil-based paint. Coating straight over it with a modern water-based finish is the single most common reason interior trim starts peeling within a season. It needs de-glossing and a bonding primer first. Tall baseboards, picture rails and the deep window casings common in greystones and older two-flats are brushed by hand rather than sprayed, so the profile stays sharp instead of filling in.
There are practical constraints too. Steam radiators and their pipework need working around and, where they are being painted, the right heat-tolerant product. In occupied condo and courtyard buildings we work to the building’s access hours and protect shared hallways, elevators and stairwells, not just the unit itself.
